Welcome to The Cannery!

This historic waterfront property is like being on your own private island.  It offers incredible views and wildlife, an 8-person spa, an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, private beaches at low tide, two outdoor showers, a firepit, a kayak/canoe launch, a kayak shack with Hydro-Bikes, Kayaks and a Paddle Boat for our guest’s use, pond, creek, gazebo with benches (perfect for picnics), creekside Tea House & multiple entertainment areas.

The mild microclimate of Alsea Bay results in temperatures that are generally 10 degrees warmer, with much less wind than the oceanfront.

Guests are welcome to bring their own non-motorized watercraft.  For guests with boats, the Waldport boat launch ramp is right across the bay.

The wildlife is incredible.  On a daily basis, we see harbor seals, cranes, cormorants, herons, and river otters.   Bald eagles nest on the property (June 2020 update!!! There are THREE new eaglets in the family! Mom and Dad are teaching them to hunt shellfish on the sandbar in front of the house at low tide.)  There are occasional orca sightings.  An incredible variety of waterfowl.  Bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks scamper through the back yard in the spring and summer.

Please note that this listing is for the main home on the estate.  We live here part of the year in an adjacent guest house with a separate entrance and driveway when guests are in the main home. We generally do not use the common area amenities when our guests are in residence, so they can enjoy them undisturbed.

We have four extremely friendly Rottweilers and a Bombay cat who considers himself the fifth Rottweiler.  They enjoy coming to greet our guests, and then return to their fulltime jobs of sleeping, swimming in the bay, and patrolling the shoreline for marauding ducks.

If anyone in your party is nervous around, or allergic to, large dogs (or Bombay cats), we are not a good fit for you.

People love this property

"What a fantastic stay! It’s hard to find convenient accommodations with our kids and this was truly a stay to remember, for all the right reasons. We loved every bit of it. We honestly spent a good portion of our trip just hanging out, cooking tasty meals, and playing in the secret game room. Would definitely come to this home again. It was also the perfect romantic get away for me and the spouse, which is also hard to find with kids. We loved the hot tub and the master suite. Things were set up really conveniently."

“This is my second stay at Lauri’s beach house, and it won’t be the last! The house is comfortable and has wonderful access/views of the coast. Very relaxing stay and can’t wait to come back. Lauri is a great host!”

“This place was perfect for our family visit to Newport. The location was great and super convenient. The views of the bay were outstanding! The rooms were nice and clean. Lauri communicated well and had lots of great recommendations for local attractions and hidden gems. I highly recommend Lauri’s place for anyone visiting Newport.”
